I hear some people, when they enter the mosque and the imam is bowing, saying that Allah is with the patient, so that the imam prolongs the unit of prayer until they catch up with it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I hear some people, when they enter the mosque and the imam is bowing, saying that Allah is with the patient, so that the imam prolongs the unit of prayer until they catch up with it. Is this permissible?

The Shaykh : This has no basis, and it was not the practice of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) nor part of their guidance. It also causes disturbance to the worshippers praying with the imam, and disturbing the worshippers is prohibited because it harms them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once came out to his companions one night while they were praying and raising their voices in recitation, so he forbade them from doing so and said:
Do not raise your voices over one another in the Qur'an. لا جهرن بعضكم على بعض في القرآن
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 59:118
In another hadith:
Do not call out to one another in recitation. لا يؤذن بعضكم بعضاً في القراءة
This indicates that anything which disturbs the worshippers in their prayer is prohibited, due to the harm it causes and the way it stands between the worshipper and his prayer.
As for the imam, the jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) say: If the imam notices someone entering the prayer, he should wait for him, provided it does not burden the worshippers. If it burdens them, he should not wait, especially if he is in the last unit of prayer, because the congregation is caught up in the last unit, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever catches a raka of the prayer has caught the prayer. من أدرك ركعة من الصلاة فقد أدرك الصلاة
Muwatta Malik 1:15
