I read in a book called *Dقائق الأخبار* (Details of News) what suggests that after death, an angel named Duman enters the grave and tells the person to write down his deeds.

The questioner : I read in a book called: "Dقائق الأخبار" what suggests that after death, an angel named: "Duman" enters the grave and tells the person: "Write down your deeds." He asks: "Where are my pen, ink, and paper?" The angel holds up his right index finger and says: "This is your pen," points to his mouth and says: "This is your ink," and cuts a piece of skin from his hand and says: "This is your paper." It also narrates much of what happens after death, such as the soul seeking permission from its Lord after a week and returning to the house where it used to live. Is this correct, and is there anything from the Qur'an and Sunnah that proves this?

The Shaykh : This is incorrect; rather, it is invalid. It is not permissible to rely on anything regarding the unseen matters that has not been established from Allah and His Messenger, because the unseen matters are known only to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) or to those whom Allah has informed among the messengers He has chosen. Allah the Exalted said:
(26) [He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone (27) Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before each messenger and behind him observers عالم الغيب فلا يطلع على غيبه أحداً إلا من ارتضى من رسول فإنه يسلك من بين يديه ومن خلفه رصداً
[Al-Jinn 72:26-27]
And what he mentioned regarding what happens to a person after his death is invalid and has no basis.
I warn my brother the questioner against reading such books, and there are many types of them in admonition, encouragement, and warning. Many of the books written in admonition, encouragement, and warning contain hadiths that have no chain of transmission. The authors intend only to strengthen people's desire or fear, and this is an error. It is an error for which I hope Allah forgives them if it stems from good intention. Beware, and beware, of such books. What is authentic from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is sufficient for these matters.
