The questioner : He says: What is the authenticity of the hadith narrated by al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim, the meaning of which is that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) used to forget the Qur'an, so he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of that. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray four rak'ahs on the night of Friday. In the first, recite al-Fatihah and Surat Yasin; in the second, al-Fatihah and Surat al-Dukhan; in the third, al-Fatihah and al-Sajdah; and in the fourth, al-Fatihah and Surat al-Mulk. When you finish, praise Allah, send blessings upon me, and recite this supplication." He mentioned a long supplication. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

The questioner : "Do this three, five, or seven times, and you will be answered by the permission of Allah"?

The Shaykh : This hadith is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as the scholars have stated. However, what helps in preserving the Qur'an and keeping it with you is reviewing the Qur'an, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. He said:
Commit yourself to the Qur'an, for by Him in whose Hand is my soul, it is surely more prone to break away than a camel in its bind. تعاهدوا القرأن فوالذي نفسي بيده لهو أشد تفصيا من الإبل في عقلها
Sahih al-Bukhari 5033
So if you want the Qur'an to remain with you, increase its recitation according to what you fear for yourself. If you fear that you will forget it unless you recite it in three days, then recite it in three days, or in seven, or in ten. The important thing is that this depends on the person himself, and the preservation of the Qur'an is achieved by reviewing its recitation.
And know that if you recite the Qur'an, you have ten good deeds for every letter, not just one good deed, but ten. And a person loves good and loves the abundance of reward.
As for this hadith that you mentioned, it is not authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
