The questioner : The listener is also Muhammad Abu Zahra, an Egyptian, who says: This hadith is from Ma'qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is the authenticity of this hadith, O honorable Shaykh?
The Shaykh : Yes, this hadith is weak.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : It is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). As for Surah Ya Sin, some scholars recommended reciting it over the dying person based on another hadith regarding this, but there is also scrutiny of that hadith. It is the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 537 It is well known that the virtues of deeds, whether from the Qur'an or otherwise, cannot be used to establish a legal ruling unless there is valid evidence.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : And although some scholars (may Allah have mercy on them and forgive them) are lenient regarding the hadiths concerning the virtues of deeds or warnings, and do not strictness in them, the better course is to restrict oneself to what is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in terms of encouragement and warning. Those who permitted mentioning virtues, or those who affirmed virtues based on weak hadiths, stipulated three conditions: that the weakness not be severe, that one does not believe that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said it, and that there is a fixed basis for the deed to which this virtue is attached through a valid path. They said that these conditions justify mentioning the virtue of a deed if it is sought, or warning against it if it is prohibited, because no legal ruling is established in it. The utmost in this is that the soul hopes for virtues and fears from vices. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
The heart of the Qur'an is Ya Sin. No man recites it seeking Allah and the Hereafter but that Allah forgives him. Recite it over your dead.
