I know that it is prescribed for the mu'adhdhin to turn to the right and left at the two exclamations, but when loudspeakers became widespread, praise be to Allah, is that still prescribed, and that is because when the mu'adhdhin turns, the sound in the microphone weakens because he moves away from it.

The questioner : The listener from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University says in his third question: I know that it is prescribed for the mu'adhdhin to turn to the right and left at the two exclamations, but when loudspeakers became widespread, praise be to Allah, is that still prescribed, and that is because when the mu'adhdhin turns, the sound in the microphone weakens because he moves away from it?

The Shaykh : I have a reservation regarding this issue, because the original reason for prescribing the turning is so that those to the right of the mu'adhdhin and those to his left can participate in hearing the adhan. If a person is calling the adhan with a loudspeaker, the source of the adhan is the upper speakers, whether he turns or not. In fact, if he turns, the sound may decrease, as the questioner said.

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : So, in my view, this issue is a matter of reservation. The original point is: is this turning for the sake of worship, or for the sake of conveying the sound to the right and left? If it is for the sake of worship, then the turning remains. If it is for the sake of conveying the sound to the right and left, then there is no need for turning in this case. Yes.

The questioner : Very well.
