Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The listener also asks, saying: What is the method for calculating the zakah on the monthly salaries received by workers and employees?

The Shaykh : Zakah is not obligatory unless a lunar year has passed, and it is due on what the owner possesses. If he spends it before the completion of the lunar year, its zakah is dropped. Accordingly, if the monthly salaries remain with you until a lunar year has passed, you must pay zakah on them. But how do you pay it? You have two ways to pay the zakah on them. The first way is to determine the share of each month and pay its zakah when its lunar year is completed. This may involve difficulty and hardship, because a person does not know what remains after he spends from this money.
As for the second way, it is to pay zakah on the entire amount when the lunar year of the first salary is completed. In this case, paying the zakah on the first salary is paying it at its proper time, and paying the zakah on the subsequent months is paying it early. Paying zakah early is permissible, especially if there is a benefit in doing so, as in this case. If a person does what we mentioned by paying the zakah on all that he has in one go, that is easier for him, safer, and more purifying for his conscience. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
