How to Pay Zakat on Wealth from the Monthly Salary

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A man relies on his monthly salary for his income; he spends part of it and saves the rest. How does he pay the zakat on this wealth?

A: He must keep a written record of what he saves from his salaries, and then he must pay its zakat when a lunar year has passed over it. Each monthly surplus is subject to zakat when a lunar year has passed over it. If he pays the zakat on the entire amount following the first month, there is no harm in that, and he will receive the reward for it. The zakat is considered paid in advance for the surplus over which a lunar year has not yet passed. There is no objection to paying zakat in advance if the one paying it sees a benefit in doing so. However, delaying it after the completion of the lunar year is not permissible except for a valid religious excuse, such as the wealth being in a distant location or the poor being in a distant location.
