The questioner : This listener, Nasser, and Muhammad al-'Aiban have this question. The listener Nasser says: I entered a mosque at the time of the Maghrib prayer, and a man stepped forward to lead the congregation. When he prostrated, he extended his leg and did not prostrate on the seven limbs, knowing that his knee and the sole of his foot did not touch the ground. What is the ruling on one who prayed behind this man? Please advise us on this?
The Shaykh : This imam is unable to prostrate in the required manner, for prostration is obligatory on seven limbs, as in the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:.
The scholars have differed on whether it is permissible for an imam who is unable to perform a pillar to lead those who are able to perform it. The correct view is that it is permissible for him to lead those who are able to perform it, because this imam who is unable to perform it is excused from what he is unable to do, so it is as if he performed it. This is indicated by the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 607Sahih (Al-Albani). This indicates the permissibility of a person who is unable to stand leading those who are able to stand.
Based on this, the prayer behind this man who extends his leg during prostration is a valid prayer, not invalid. However, it is recommended to seek an imam other than him who is able to perform the pillars and fulfill the conditions, because this is more cautious and clears the conscience. Yes.
