The questioner : I, praise be to Allah, have many legal books, including the book "Riyad al-Salihin" and "Fiqh al-Sunnah", the three volumes by Shaykh Sabiq. Since I have a lot of free time that I want to spend on something beneficial, I wanted to deepen my understanding of the religion, but I am confused about which of the two books to start with. Should I start with the book "Riyad al-Salihin" or the book "Fiqh al-Sunnah"? We ask for guidance on this matter.

The Shaykh : What I see is that you should start with the book "Riyad al-Salihin", because the book "Riyad al-Salihin" contains great etiquettes that are rarely found in other books, and it also contains a lot of jurisprudence regarding acts of worship and transactions. So start with it first, and then after that, start with whatever beneficial and useful books you see. Among the useful books is "Zad al-Ma'ad fi Hidayat Khayr al-'Ibad" by Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), for it is a book that combines the Prophetic biography and jurisprudence. It is known to us all that studying the biography of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is an important and required matter, because through it you know much of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and through it faith and love for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) increase. So my advice to you and to the listener is that we read the biography of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner : O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him.

The Shaykh : But one must be cautious of the weak narrations that have been attached to the biography but are not part of it. Among the best books written on the biography, with good verification, is the book "Al-Bidaya wa al-Nihaya" by Ibn Kathir, for it is good and useful. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This is a listener, Umm Ahmad, who sent this question, saying in it that she.
