Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: The second book.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Our spiritual nourishment by Professor Sa'id Hawa mentions in it the chapter of begging, the section on begging, seeking nearness to Allah through a means.

The Shaykh: Begging, not seeking nearness to Allah through a means.
The student: Seeking nearness to Allah through a means.

The Shaykh: All right.
The student: Seeking nearness to Allah through a means from Uthman ibn Hanif (may Allah be pleased with him).

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: That a blind man came to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, call upon Allah to restore my sight." He said, "Or shall I call upon you?" meaning, does he call upon Allah, or does he call upon this man, or does he call upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said:
O Messenger of Allah, the loss of my sight has been difficult for me يا رسول الله ، إنه قد شَقَّ عليَّ ذهاب بصري
He said: So he went to seek the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)
So he went, performed the ablution, then prayed two units of prayer, then said: O Allah, I ask You and I turn to You by Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord by You to restore my sight. O Allah, grant him intercession and grant me intercession in my own soul
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 18:127
Our Shaykh, in it, they also cite this hadith in your opinion, O Shaykh, is it authentic or weak?

The Shaykh: Yes, the hadith is authentic.
The student: The hadith is authentic.

The Shaykh: Yes.
The student: Is it cited as evidence that it is permissible to seek intercession through the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The Shaykh: Today, no.
The student: Meaning, before his passing.

The Shaykh: That is what happened.
The student: Before his passing, it is permissible.

The Shaykh: Yes, because seeking nearness to Allah through a means is through his supplication (peace be upon him), not through his person.
The student: Okay, may Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh, okay.
