Reading from the author's text with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "And likewise the hadith of the blind man

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "And likewise the hadith of the blind man, for he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to supplicate for him so that Allah would restore his sight, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him a supplication in which he was commanded to ask Allah to accept the intercession of His Prophet for him, this indicates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) interceded for him, and he commanded him to ask Allah to accept the intercession, and his saying:
I ask You and turn towards You by Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the Prophet of Mercy
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3578Sahih (Darussalam)
means: by his supplication and his intercession, just as 'Umar said:
We used to ask our Prophet to invoke You for rain
Sahih al-Bukhari 1010
So the word tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through a means) and the word tawajjuh (turning to) in the two hadiths mean the same thing, then he said:
O Muhammad, O Messenger of Allah, I turn to You by my Lord in my need so that He may fulfill it. O Allah, so let him intercede for me
So he asked Allah to let his Prophet intercede for him, and his saying:
O Muhammad, O Prophet of Allah
this and the like of it is an address intended to bring the one being addressed to mind in the heart, so one addresses the one witnessed in the heart, just as the one praying says"

The Shaykh : In a phrase.
The reader: "So the word tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through a means) and the word tawajjuh (turning to) in the two hadiths mean the same thing, then he said:
O Muhammad, O Messenger of Allah, I turn to You by my Lord in my need so that He may fulfill it. O Allah, so let him intercede for me
So he asked Allah to let his Prophet intercede for him, and his saying:
O Muhammad, O Prophet of Allah
this and the like of it is an address intended to bring the one being addressed to mind in the heart, so one addresses the one witnessed in the heart, just as the one praying says"
.

The Shaykh : Do you have "addresses the one witnessed"? His meaning, may Allah know best, is that he addresses the one witnessed in the heart.
The reader: He pointed to a copy, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Huh?
The reader: He said a copy.

The Shaykh : A copy?
The reader: Yes, in J and D: the one witnessed.

The Shaykh : Yes, clarify "addresses the one witnessed in the heart" meaning as if he sees him with his own eyes.
The reader: "Just as the one praying says:
as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu السلام عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1171Sahih (Darussalam)
And a person does this often, addressing one whom he visualizes in his mind, even if there is no one outside to hear the address"
.

The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) has benefited us by stating that his saying:
Peace be upon you, O Prophet
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1171Sahih (Darussalam)
is from the category of addressing the one witnessed in the heart, and not from the category of addressing the one witnessed with the eyes. Therefore, you will find the Companions saying: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet," and none of them ever directs his gaze to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in his place, ever. And you will find them saying this while they are in Mecca and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is in Medina. So this is not like the greeting of one witnessed with the eyes. One witnessed with the eyes, you say "Peace be upon you, so-and-so." If you said this while you are praying, even if the Messenger passed by you, for example in a waking state, and you said "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah," your prayer would be invalidated. So there is a difference between the one witnessed in the heart and the one witnessed with the eyes.
