What is the ruling on urinating while standing?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Or what?

The questioner: Urinating while standing

The Shaykh: As for drinking while standing, the prohibition of it is authentic, indeed the warning against it

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: And he informed that whoever drinks while standing has drunk with Satan. As for urinating while standing, the prohibition of it is not authentic. It came in a hadith of Ibn Majah
Do not urinate while standing لا تبل قائما
but its chain is weak. However, the ruling on urinating while standing differs. If one urinates and the spray does not return to him, it is permissible, there is nothing wrong with it. But if the spray returns to him, it is not permissible to urinate while standing in this case. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to this in some of the authentic hadiths, among which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)
Beware of (smearing yourselves with) urine, because it is the main cause of punishment in the grave استنزهوا من البول فإن عامة عذاب القبر منه
Bulugh al-Maram 103
And there is also in that the hadith of al-Bukhari from Ibn Abbas that he passed by two graves and said
They (their occupants) are being tormented, but they are not tormented for a grievous sin. One of them أما إنهما ليعذبان وما يعذبان في كبيرة أما أحدهما فكان لا يستنزه
Sahih Muslim 292a
And in a narration
One of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other used to go about with calumnies لا يستتر من البول وأما الآخر فكان يسعى في النميمة
Sahih al-Bukhari 218
to the end of the hadith

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: And therefore, the ruling on urination is related to the spray, negatively or positively

The questioner : Yes, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh: And peace be upon you

The questioner : Peace be upon you

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
