The ruling on carrying the mushaf for the ma'mum while the imam is reciting.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, what we observe from some people in this mosque—the Masjid al-Haram—of carrying mushafs to follow the imam's recitation without any need.
This is also disliked, because it involves movement in carrying the mushaf, opening it, folding it, and following the words and letters with the eye, and this is a movement of the eyes. It also results in missing the placement of the right hand over the left hand on the chest, which is leaving a recommended practice. It also results in missing the separation of the limbs during bowing and prostration, because some people put it in their armpit, which prevents them from separating their limbs. It also results in missing the prayer of the worshipper looking at the place of prostration, because he will be looking at the mushaf. And the general rule is that when a person is reviewing the mushaf with the reciter, he becomes absorbed and forgets that he is in prayer, as if he is following him in a school, yes, or an institute, or a Qur'an memorization circle, or something similar, because he becomes absorbed in this following until he forgets that he is in prayer.
All these things occur even though there is absolutely no need for it.
But some of those who do it claim that it brings presence of heart to their prayers.
And this claim may be true, because we do not know what is in their hearts.
But we say: if you trained yourself to have presence of heart and left this action, you would know that there is no need for the mushaf to be in your hands to follow the imam.
