The Shaykh : Among the things that are fitting to mention as a conclusion is that the hadith in its entirety, as it appears in the aforementioned sources, can be considered an explanation of His saying, the Exalted:
And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.
[Al-Isra 17:15]
, taking into account his saying, (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
hears of me يسمع بي
, meaning in his true reality
a messenger, a prophet
. So, whoever hears of him other than what he was, (peace and blessings be upon him), of guidance and light, due to some of the ignorant among the Muslims, or the callers to misguidance among the supporters of the Christians and the atheists who depict him to their peoples other than his true reality, (peace and blessings be upon him), as is well known about them, these peoples have not heard of him, (peace and blessings be upon him), so his call did not reach them to hear of him, (peace and blessings be upon him), in his true reality, so his call did not reach them, and thus the warning mentioned in the hadith does not include them. This is like his saying, (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever saw me (in a dream)
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2276Sahih (Darussalam)
; meaning: in his true reality, (peace and blessings be upon him), which he was upon in his life until his death. So, whoever claims that he saw him, for example, as an old man whose beard had turned white, has not seen him, because this description contradicts what he was, (peace and blessings be upon him), as is well known from his characteristics.
The student : May Allah preserve you, O our Shaykh. May Allah strengthen you, O our Shaykh. Our Shaykh, what is Shu'ayb saying about this matter in this hadith when you mentioned Shu'ayb?
Another student: Our Shaykh, here the hadith, after you authenticated it,
Whoever hears of me from my Ummah
, then the word
a Jew يهوديًّا
came.

The Shaykh: That is, if there had been anything in it, it would have been Jewish or Christian.
a Jew or a Christian

The student : No,
Whoever hears of me from my Ummah a Jew
.

The Shaykh : Meaning, its estimation is: whether he was a Jew or a Christian.
The student : But "from my Ummah" is in it, my Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Meaning, from my Ummah, my brother, may Allah guide you. The Ummah is the Ummah of response and the Ummah of invitation, so this is the Ummah of invitation.
The student : He may have heard the other hadith because it has the conjunction "or"
Whoever hears of me from my Ummah or a Jew or a Christian
.

The Shaykh : No... and ninety-three.
