What is the Islamic ruling on dealing with the people of innovation? And is it permissible to boycott them absolutely?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The first question: What is the Islamic ruling regarding dealing with the people of innovation, or is boycotting the people of innovation a fundamental principle or a temporary matter?

The Shaykh : May Allah assist you, O you Saudis. You have been surprised by strange and odd ideas and opinions... I said just now, may Allah assist you, O you Saudis. Why? Because whenever we sit in a gathering like this with some of our brothers, among the questions raised is this question. This is proof that you are now occupied with what you were not previously occupied with. So, on this occasion, I say to our brother Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Omani.
The student: Yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : He greeted you about an hour and a half ago, or perhaps two hours ago. Oman called me.
The student : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : One thing brings to mind another.
The student : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : This questioner says, and this is part of the answer, that he has a relative who borrowed from the bank for his wife's mahr. Despite the fact that he advised him, he did not heed his advice, so he married with this mahr. He asks—yes, and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Welcome. Is it open? Did you hear the voice? Hello, is it open?—He said, what do we do? We advised him and he did not accept the advice, so should we cut off relations with him? I composed a statement for him which is the answer to your question now. Boycott, religiously, is without doubt a legitimate means to discipline some individuals among people who deviate from the right path. But this boycott and this legitimate means is beneficial in an Islamic society, meaning one where the majority of its people and the inhabitants of the land are characterized by righteousness and piety. When one of them is boycotted for his discipline and upbringing, this boycott is beneficial and yields its fruit in most cases. However, when the society is like our society today, the strange one described by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in some hadiths, and he described the righteous among them by saying (peace be upon him) in the well-known hadith in "Musnad al-Imam Ahmad" and others:
Islam began as something strange and will go back to being strange, so glad tidings to the strangers. إنَّ الإسلام بدأ غريبًا ، وسيعود غريبًا ؛ فطوبى للغرباء
Sunan Ibn Majah 3987Hasan (Darussalam)
. They said: Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said:
They are a few righteous people among many people, and those who disobey them are more than those who obey them هم ناس قليلون صالحون ، بين ناس كثيرين ، مَن يعصيهم أكثر ممَّن يطيعهم
. When the society is such that the righteous in it are strangers and the wicked in it are the overwhelming majority, here the boycott is not beneficial and may even cause harm. This is if the one intended to be boycotted has abandoned or committed a known sin or crime in Islam by necessity. But if he has committed a matter that is not of this kind, but may be one of the matters in which scholars have differed in the past, and although the disagreement does not serve to make permissible what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden, but rather serves to provide an excuse for one who may commit that violation, such that he is not considered an open sinner who has transgressed the Islamic ruling, because he finds someone who issues a fatwa permitting it. On this basis, I say: Boycoting the innovator or the one who has an innovation, is this person who is boycotted, who is claimed to be one who has an innovation or is an innovator, is he known to the scholars of the Muslims to be so? This is first. Second, is his boycott beneficial? This was first. But now, considering that the issue has developed, I say that this question, we should not occupy ourselves with it first. Then, if it is necessary to direct such a question, we say: Leave the issue of boycotting the one who abandons prayer, let alone those below him, and try to advise him and guide him, as He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best
[An-Nahl 16:125]
. Therefore, among the innovations today is raising these topics. This is all I have.
