The Shaykh : It is paid one or two days before the festival, and the best is to pay it on the morning of the festival before the prayer; this is the best. Abdullah ibn 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that zakat al-fitr be paid before the prayer." And in the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him):
If anyone pays it before the prayer (of 'Id), it will be accepted as zakat. If anyone pays it after the prayer, that will be a sadaqah like other sadaqahs (alms). من أداها قبل الصلاة فهي زكاة مقبولة ومن أداها بعد الصلاة فهي صدقة من الصدقات
