The Shaykh : ... Therefore, we find one of our Imams, who has the merit of guiding us to adhere to this methodology, the methodology of the righteous Salaf in understanding the Book and the Sunnah, and I mean by that Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him), who gathered this meaning in two lines of his poetry, saying (may Allah have mercy on him):
"Knowledge is: Allah said, His Messenger said, *** The Companions said"
He did not stop at saying: "Knowledge is: Allah said, His Messenger said," but he added to them: "The Companions said." And you have known the reason for that: the verse and the authentic hadiths that indicate that the saved group is the one that adheres to what the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were upon. Therefore, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
"Knowledge is: Allah said, His Messenger said, *** The Companions said, not by deception
Knowledge is not setting you up for foolish disagreement *** Between the Messenger and the opinion of a jurist
No, nor denying the attributes and negating them *** Out of fear of denial of the divine attributes and likening Allah to creation"
