The Meaning of the Saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "And whether he is wretched or happy."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said:
And whether he is wretched or happy وشقي أم سعيد

Wretchedness is failure and the failure to attain one's hopes.
Happiness is salvation, success, and the attainment of one's hopes.
Is wretchedness and happiness in the Hereafter, or in this world and the Hereafter? It is in this world and the Hereafter.
The wretched person in this world is wretched in the Hereafter, and the happy person in this world is happy in the Hereafter.
However, the happiness of this world is not in the abundance of wealth, children, family, palaces, and the like. The happiness of this world is in righteous deeds. The evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life من عمل صالحا من ذكر أو أنثى وهو مؤمن فلنحيينه حياة طيبة
[An-Nahl 16:97]
, so there is no good life except for one who does righteous deeds and is a believer, whether male or female.
The life of the luxurious is not good, because the luxurious person has so much bitterness and annoyance that his life becomes disturbed. If the luxurious person misses even a small bit of luxury, he becomes depressed, upset, and afflicted with stress and tribulation.
And if the believer misses this thing, he is at peace and satisfied with the divine decree and destiny of Allah, and this thing does not concern him as long as it is from Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Therefore, you will find the believer moving between two things: either gratitude for a blessing, or patience in adversity, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Astonishing is the affair of the believer, for all his affairs are good. If prosperity strikes him, he is grateful, and it is good for him. And if adversity strikes him, he is patient, and it is good for him عجبا لأمر المؤمن إن أمره كله خير، إن أصابته سراء شكر فكان خيرا له، وإن أصابته ضراء صبر فكان خيرا له
. And some of the Salaf said: "If the kings and the sons of kings knew what we are in, they would fight us for it with swords". And he spoke the truth. The kings and the sons of kings are undoubtedly in luxury, but the believer is not in luxury; rather, he is in the bliss of the heart.
So a person's happiness and wretchedness are written for him while he is in his mother's womb, but he is not excused from striving for happiness. Rather, he is commanded to strive for what brings him happiness and success in this world and the Hereafter.
