The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : ... This is one of the hadiths narrated by a man named Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam al-Madani. Although his father, Zayd ibn Aslam, was one of the major trustworthy Tabi'un, the son, Abd al-Rahman, was not like his father in reliability; rather, he was accused of lying. Imam Malik was asked about a hadith from the rare narrations, and he said to the questioner: "Go to Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, and he will narrate to you about Noah's Ark."
This is, of course, a soft and subtle allusion by Imam Malik that the hadith you are asking about is one of the hadiths narrated by this man who tells you about Noah's Ark, between whom and Noah's Ark are long generations and generations.
So this Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, whom Malik ibn Anas hinted at in that narration, is the author of the famous hadith whose text is:
When Adam committed the sin, he said: "My Lord, I ask You by Muhammad that You forgive me." He said: "O Adam, how did you know Muhammad when I had not created him?" He said: "I raised my head to the Throne and I saw written on its pillars: There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. So I knew that You did not pair with Your name except the most beloved of creation to You." He said: "O Adam, I have forgiven you, and had it not been for Muhammad, I would not have created you."
. This hadith is narrated by Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, who is accused in his narration. Therefore, al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi said about it—meaning about the hadith—in his summary of the book "Al-Mustadrak": "I fear that it is a fabricated hadith."
