The Shaykh : Encouraging the visitation of the sick, emphasizing it, and encouraging the supplication for the sick. It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The rights of a Muslim on the Muslims are five: to respond to the salaam, visiting the sick, to follow the funeral processions, to accept an invitation, and to reply to those who sneeze. حق المسلم على المسلم خمس رد السلام وعيادة المريض واتباع الجنائز وإجابة الدعوة وتشميت العاطس
Sahih al-Bukhari 1240
It was narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah. In a narration by Muslim:
A Muslim has six duties towards another Muslim.” When asked what they were he replied, “When you meet him salute him ; when he issues an invitation to you, accept it; when he asks your advice give it to him ; when he sneezes and praises God say, ‘God have mercy on you’; when he is ill visit him ; and when he dies follow him to the grave.”
Mishkat al-Masabih 1525
It was narrated by al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i in similar terms. This hadith, as evident from its tracing to sources, is among the authentic hadiths regarding these matters. We will speak about them, if Allah wills, in a manner appropriate to the occasion in the next lesson. This is sufficient for now, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
