Among the benefits of the hadith is the eagerness of the Companions to ask about the best of deeds.

The Shaykh : This hadith has several benefits:
The first benefit is the eagerness of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to ask about the best of deeds, as indicated by his saying:
was asked, 'What type of earning is best?' سئل أي الكسب أطيب؟
Bulugh al-Maram 7:1
. When the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked about perfection, they did not merely want knowledge of perfection; rather, they applied it and acted upon it. They were not like the state of most people today, who ask about perfection and the best, but then do not act upon it! No, they did not ask except in order to act, and this is the characteristic of the believer. These are the believers who, when they know the truth, act upon it. As for knowing it and keeping it in their hearts like copies of books that do not go beyond the hearts, that is not among the characteristics of the believers, nor among their attributes. The characteristic of the believer is that he is active and acting, not delaying. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the women to give charity, what did they do? The woman would take her earring from her ear and her ring from her finger and throw it into the garment of Bilal, without delay, without hesitation, and without any consultation whatsoever. Thus, the Muslim should be, and indeed it is obligatory for the believer to be, in this manner: whenever he learns something better, he acts upon it as much as he is able. We ask Allah to make us and you among those who race to do good. Yes, so the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) ask about the best, not in order to know the best, but in order to know it, what? And to act upon it and apply it.
