Continuation of the explanation of the hadith: (What I called you to) and pointing out the weakness of what is attributed to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he was thrown into the fire and the angel came to him and said to him

The Shaykh : So
What I called you to ما دعوتني
the supplication here is worship, as you heard in the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). It is obligatory for the Muslim to always direct his heart and his inner self to his Lord (Mighty and Majestic), calling upon Him to forgive him. It is also not correct what is attributed to our father Ibrahim (peace be upon him) that when his people intended to throw him into the fire, Allah sent Jibril (peace be upon him) to him and said to him: Do you have any need of your Lord? He said: His knowledge of my state is sufficient for me instead of asking. This is also a Sufi narration. I say it is Sufi because some of the Sufis exaggerated in many things in which they exaggerated, so they relied on abandoning this great act of worship which the Messenger (peace be upon him) made the foundation of worship when he said
Supplication is worship الدعاء هو العبادة
So what did some of the Sufis say? They said: Your asking Him is an accusation against Him. Your asking Him is an accusation against Him. They say this in their explanations, because the words of the Sufis are like the Prophetic hadiths; just as the Prophetic hadiths have commentators, so the words of the Sufis have commentators. So they said in explaining this word: Your seeking from Him or your asking Him is an accusation against Him. Why? They said: Because He knows the secret and what is even more hidden. So why do you ask Him? Does He not know what is in your heart? These people were unaware of the meaning contained in the servant’s turning to his Lord with his supplication, which is the ultimate submission and the manifestation of servitude and need for Him. Your reliance solely on your knowledge that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) knows what is in your heart has no relation to your servitude; rather, it has a relation to the lordship of your Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He). It is obligatory for us to affirm our servitude to Him in addition to our belief in His lordship and His divinity (Blessed and Exalted is He). So when that person says, "Your seeking from Him is an accusation against Him," he has abolished the servitude related to Him and relied on the fact that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) knows the secret and what is even more hidden. Therefore, you will find the Qur'an and the hadiths of the Messenger (peace be upon him) in hundreds of texts regarding the prophets, the awliya (close friends of Allah), and the righteous, always calling upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And how numerous are the verses about Ibrahim
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants ربنا إني أسكنت من ذريتي
[Ibrahim 14:37]
to the end of the surah, or the end of the surah, and the supplication of Nuh (peace be upon him), the supplication of Ya'qub. It is possible for a person to collect the supplications of the prophets and messengers in a booklet and find them many and very many. And Allah the Exalted said
supplicate Us in hope and fear يدعوننا رغبا ورهبا
[Al-Anbya 21:90]
Who is this description for? It is a description of His chosen, excellent servants. Therefore, the error is very great that we turn away from supplication, calling upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic), on the pretext that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) knows the secret and what is even more hidden and knows the need that one of us wants. We say: Yes, but He also wants us to humble ourselves to Him, to submit to Him, and to ask Him. Therefore, there is encouragement in some hadiths from the Messenger (peace be upon him) that one of us should ask his Lord, even for the lace of his sandal. What do you think? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the Muslims to ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for the most trivial thing, which is the strap of the... or the strap of the sandal breaking, so he asks his Lord to make a person available to lift it for him or to glue it for him. To this extent, the matter of the lace is a trivial thing, but your turning to Allah by asking Him to deal with this trivial matter for you is an affirmation of your need and your servitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So how about when you ask Him for Paradise, and you do not ask Him for the Fire, and you do not ask Him as the Messenger (peace be upon him) asked
O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed, and I seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. اللهم إني أسألك الجنة وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل وأعوذ بك من النار وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل
Sunan Ibn Majah 3846Sahih (Darussalam)
We stop here now, considering that the time allotted for the lesson has passed, and we now turn to answering the questions, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
