The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father): “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs). Ibrahim said it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said it when they said:[Ali 'Imran 3:173]. Ibrahim and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them both) are the two close friends of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:125]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 532. The term *Khalil* (close friend) means the beloved whose love has reached the ultimate limit. We do not know that anyone was described with this description except Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and Ibrahim. They are the two *Khalil*s. You sometimes hear some people say: “Ibrahim is the close friend of Allah, Muhammad is the beloved of Allah, and Musa is the one who spoke with Allah”. The one who says that Muhammad is the beloved of Allah has something in his speech that requires consideration, because *khalah* (intimate friendship) is more eloquent than *mahabbah* (love). So if he says Muhammad is the beloved of Allah, there is a kind of deficiency in the right of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), because the beloveds of Allah are many. The believers are loved by Allah, the doers of good are loved by Allah, and the just are loved by Allah. The beloveds of Allah are many. But *khalah* (intimate friendship), we do not know that it was established for anyone except Muhammad and Ibrahim. Based on this, we say that the correct statement is: Ibrahim is the close friend of Allah, Muhammad is the close friend of Allah, and Musa is the one who spoke with Allah. However, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was spoken to by Allah the Exalted and Sublime directly, without an intermediary, when he was raised to the seven heavens.
This phrase was said by Ibrahim: “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs) when he was thrown into the fire. This is because Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him) called his people to worship Allah alone, having no partner, but they refused and persisted in disbelief and associating partners with Allah. So one day he stood up to their idols and broke them, reducing them to fragments, except for their largest one. When they returned, they found their gods broken. They took revenge, may Allah protect us, for themselves and said, “What shall we do with Ibrahim?” They said, “Burn him” to vindicate their gods.[Al-Anbya 21:68] So they kindled a great fire, a very great fire, and then they threw Ibrahim into this fire. It is said that because of the magnitude of the fire, they were unable to approach it, and that they threw Ibrahim into it with a catapult. They threw him with the catapult from a distance. When they threw him, he said: “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs). So what happened? Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Anbya 21:69]. Cold against heat, peace against destruction. Because the fire is hot, burning, and destructive, Allah commanded this fire to be cold and peace for him. So it became cold and peace.
Some of the exegetes quote from the Children of Israel in this story that when Allah said, “O Fire, be cold and peace upon Ibrahim,” all the fires of the world became cold. This is not correct, because Allah directed the address to a specific fire:[Al-Anbya 21:69]. The scholars of grammar say that when the construction is in this form, it becomes a specific indefinite noun, meaning it does not include every fire, but it is only for the fire in which Ibrahim was thrown. This is the correct view. The rest of the fires of the world remained as they were. The scholars also said that when Allah the Exalted said: , He coupled it with His saying, “be peace,” because if He had said only “be cold,” it would have been cold until it destroyed him. Because everything obeys the command of the Mighty and Majestic, everything obeys the command of Allah. Look at His saying, the Exalted: [Fussilat 41:11]. So what did they say? [Fussilat 41:11]. “We have come, obedient and submissive to the command of Allah the Mighty and Majestic.”
As for the second *Khalil* (close friend) who said: “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs), it is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions when they returned from Uhud. It was said to them:[Ali 'Imran 3:173], meaning they intended to come to the city and kill you. So they said, “Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:174]. Every person who sees a gathering of people against him or aggression toward him should say, “Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” If he says this, Allah will suffice him from their evil, just as He sufficed Ibrahim and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them both). So keep this phrase always in your mind when you see aggression from people against you: “Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” Allah the Mighty and Majestic will suffice you from them. And success is from Allah.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father): “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs). Ibrahim said it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said it when they said:
Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."
إن الناس قد جمعوا لكم فاخشوهم فزادهم إيمانا وقالوا حسبنا الله ونعم الوكيلAnd Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend.
واتخذ الله إبراهيم خليلاfor Allah has taken me as His friend, as he took Ibrahim as His friend
إن الله قد اتخذني خليلا كما اتخذ إبراهيم خليلاThis phrase was said by Ibrahim: “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs) when he was thrown into the fire. They took revenge, may Allah protect us, for themselves and said, “What shall we do with Ibrahim?” They said, “Burn him” to vindicate their gods.
and support your gods - if you are to act."
وانصروا آلهتكم إن كنتم فاعلينAllah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."
قلنا يا نار كوني بردا وسلاما على إبراهيمSome of the exegetes quote from the Children of Israel in this story that when Allah said, “O Fire, be cold and peace upon Ibrahim,” all the fires of the world became cold. This is not correct, because Allah directed the address to a specific fire:
O fire, be coolness
يا نار كوني برداBe cool
كوني برداThen He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion."
ثم استوى إلى السماء وهي دخان فقال لها وللأرض ائتيا طوعا أو كرهاThey said, "We have come willingly."
قالتا أتينا طائعينAs for the second *Khalil* (close friend) who said: “Hasbuna Allahu wa ni’m al-wakil” (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs), it is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions when they returned from Uhud. It was said to them:
