Continuation of the discussion on the Dabbah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
or the beast أو الدابة
And the Dabbah of the earth is this one whose mention came in the Noble Qur'an:
And when the word befalls them, We will bring forth for them a creature from the earth speaking to them, [saying] that the people were, of Our verses, not certain [in faith]. وإذا وقع القول عليهم أخرجنا لهم دآبة من الأرض تكلمهم أن الناس كانوا بآيتنا لا يوقنون
[An-Naml 27:82]
Nothing has come in the authentic Sunnah regarding this Dabbah beyond what is contained in this hadith along with the aforementioned verse. The summary of the matter is that it is a sign of the Hour. As for what is mentioned in some books that collect whatever they find of hadith, whether authentic or not, one should not rely on any of that. For example, here in a commentary on *Al-Raghba wa al-Ra'bah* from the modern era, strange descriptions are mentioned based on weak hadiths. For instance, it says it has four legs, fuzz, feathers, and two wings, and it is said to have the head of a bull, and so on. None of these descriptions is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his companions) except what I hinted at earlier, that it is among the signs of the Hour. For example, what is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is:
When three things appear faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed or has derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the Dajjal, and the beast of the earth. ثلاث إذا خرجن لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا طلوع الشمس من مغربها والدخان ودابة الأرض
Sahih Muslim 158
Also, this hadith contains nothing more than that it is among the major signs of the Hour. In another hadith, the rising of the sun and the Dabbah are mentioned, and it contains this benefit. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whichever of them comes first will soon be followed by the other. فأيتهما كانت قبل صاحبتها فالأخرى على أثرها قريبا
Sunan Abi Dawud 4310Sahih (Al-Albani)
If the sun rises from the west before the emergence of the Dabbah, then the emergence of the Dabbah will follow it, or vice versa: if the Dabbah emerges before the sun rises from the west, then the sun will rise from the west after it. This is all that can be said about the Dabbah of the earth, and anything else is mere conjecture and speculation that does not benefit the truth in any way.
