What are the consequences for one who has intercourse with his wife and does not perform the ritual bath, then prays out of ignorance, or has intercourse while fasting? What is the ruling on his prayer and his fast?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This questioner says: “Respected Shaykh, as you mentioned, many of the young people are ignorant of some of the rulings of the religion, especially those who have only recently married. They have intercourse with their wives and do not perform the ritual bath, then they go to pray, and this situation continues for a long time. What are the consequences for one who does this, in terms of repeating the prayer or other matters such as fasting? Please give us a ruling, and may Allah reward you with good.”

The Shaykh : As for fasting, major ritual impurity has no effect on it, because the fast of one in a state of major ritual impurity is valid. However, leaving off the prayer, or rather, leaving off the ritual bath for the prayer is the problem. The prayer is not valid without performing the ritual bath while in a state of major ritual impurity. The majority of scholars hold that it is obligatory for this person to make up all the prayers for which he did not perform the ritual bath. But it is known that this man will have intercourse and experience emission, and then he will perform the ritual bath. However, he may not know the extent of the defect in what he performed the ritual bath for. So we tell him: be cautious and make up the prayers as a precaution. If you know nothing about this, and it never occurred to you that intercourse without emission requires the ritual bath, then we hope that nothing is required of you, meaning that you do not have to make up the prayers. But you must repent and seek forgiveness for the negligence in failing to ask. Yes.
