Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: “Your Eminence, I am a teacher outside this country.”

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : She says: “I am a teacher outside this country. I go with my colleagues on the bus, and one day I found a gold bracelet on the bus. I showed it to my colleagues, and they said it was not theirs. I presented it to the bus owner, and he said it was not his. It has been with me for two years now. Is it considered mine, or should I sell it and give the proceeds in charity? I know that a lost item must be announced for one year, but I found it on the bus, so how do I announce it when I am a woman?”

The Shaykh : As for how she should announce it, being a woman, a woman is not required to announce a lost item herself, or to announce a found item herself. She should appoint someone to announce it, such as her father, brother, uncle, or the like. However, in this specific case, since she did not announce it as required, which is for one year, she must now sell it and give the proceeds in charity to its owner, or give it in charity to those in need among the poor. However, giving charity in the form of its value may be better, because the poor person benefits from the value in food, drink, clothing, and other things.
