One who finds lost property and is unaware of its ruling

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 12135 )
Q: I was in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Hijri year 1398 AH, and I had with me a son who was seven years old. He found a small gold chain, which at that time was worth one hundred Saudi riyals. At that time, I wanted to buy one, so I settled for this one, and I was unaware of the ruling on lost property. I now want to give its value in charity. Should I give the value it had when it was found, or its current value? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with the best reward, and may peace and the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.
A: If the matter is as you described, and the owners of the chain are not known, then you should give its value in charity, which is equivalent to its worth at the present time.
