What is your opinion of those who say, "How do you fight a people whose end is failure?"

Al-Halabi : The second question raised by these people is that it is known that there is discord, disagreement, and turning away, even fighting, among the leaders of the mujahideen, let alone among their individuals. They say, "How do we fight a people who are promised defeat and failure, as Allah the Exalted said: ? Is this permissible?"

The Shaykh : No. This is not permissible. What is permissible, fighting or jihad with them?
Al-Halabi : Jihad with these people who are promised failure.

The Shaykh : In reality, I say, with great regret, that this comes from some of our brothers among the students of knowledge, whether they are from us and follow our Salafi methodology, or whether they follow other methodologies. This indicates to us and makes us feel that they have no knowledge and no fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). We are the first to believe that disagreement is the cause of failure, based on the clear Qur'anic evidence in this regard and some Islamic events that occurred in the earliest, most radiant era, such as the Battle of Hunayn. But this does not mean that they will not have success or victory if they return and agree as Allah wills, or, to put it more correctly, as Allah loves from them. Therefore, we do not withdraw our support from these mujahideen because they have fallen into a violation of the Shari'ah; this is not Shari'ah, and consequently, what follows from it is not prescribed. And as long as they have disagreed, we do not fight alongside them. So what do these simple people want to think? Do they want these mujahideen, who have fallen into such disagreement and conflict, to throw down their weapons and hand over the Afghan land, which has been soaked in blood, to these communists? Is that what they want? That is the meaning of their words, and no person with a grain of intellect and understanding would say that. Therefore, I say the exact opposite: it is obligatory for Muslims in all lands of the world to support these people with all the strength they can provide to them, until one of the two things I mentioned earlier is realized: either victory or defeat. If victory is realized, if Allah wills, that is what every Muslim hopes for. And if the other happens, may Allah forbid it, the issue returns as we said regarding Palestine.
