The Shaykh : How, my Muslim brothers, how is it that the religion of Islam unites us, but our failure to engage with understanding our religion according to the methodology of our Salaf divides us? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) left them upon the white, pure path, its night like its day, and none deviates from it except one who is destroyed. The discussion of this is very, very long-tailed, because I will say: between us and our Prophet are fourteen centuries. Do you think the Islam that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) left in its perfection and completeness, fresh and pure, has remained as the Messenger (peace be upon him) left it until today? Or has something entered it that was not in it? First, hadiths have entered it from which our Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) disavows himself, with the disavowal of the wolf from the blood of the son of Jacob. Has the pure Islamic creed, in accordance with the fitrah, remained as it was in his time (peace be upon him) and the time of our righteous Salaf? Or have the Muslims divided as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They asked: Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? He answered with two answers, one explaining the other. The first answer, which is the most famous, he said: The other answer, he said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2641Da'if (Darussalam) So we ask the brothers who are eager, wherever they are in the lands of Islam, to establish the Muslim state: Do you know what the Messenger (peace be upon him) was upon in his time regarding creed, worship, and conduct? No. They do not have the leisure for this, and even if they had the leisure, they would not be able to find a way to it, because they have not studied Islam from its two pure sources. They are content, like the religion of old women. What does an old woman do? She asks. The Shaykh : And this is her obligation. And so they ask the shaykhs who have inherited knowledge by inheritance. As for what knowledge is? This is a matter of disagreement that can occur in the definition of knowledge. Many people say that knowledge is what came, for example, regarding creed, in al-Jawharah, which is on the madhhab of the Asha'irah, and regarding creed on the madhhab of the Maturidiyyah, what came, for example, in Bada' al-Ma'ani and similar books. Regarding the rulings of the Shari'ah, what came in the four madhhabs: the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. Regarding morals and conduct, what came in the book Ihyaa 'Ulum al-Din. As for what Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah said rightly:
"Knowledge is: Allah said, His Messenger said, *** The Companions said; it is not deception.
What is knowledge? You set yourself up for disagreement, foolishness, *** Between the Messenger and the opinion of a jurist.
No, and not denying the attributes and negating them, *** Out of fear of ta'til and tashbih."
This is knowledge. Today, if you have not tried, try, and I do not think you have not tried. Ask whom you want: What is the ruling of Allah in such and such? He tells you: In this issue, there are two opinions. So-and-so said such and such, and so-and-so said such and such. And this university study today, which they call comparative study, producesThe student : from the university someone who does not know the right from the wrong, and does not know the truth from the falsehood. And this is according to the madhhab of that mufti who was destined to travel, so they vacated his place for issuing fatwas, and he appointed his father in his place, and his father does not know anything of knowledge, and he admits to that. He said to him: O my son, how can I take your place when I do not know? He said: I will give you a rule that will make you comfortable. He said: What is it? He said: Whenever a questioner comes to you and asks you, tell him: In this issue, there are two opinions. For example, a man comes and says: O my master,The Shaykh : I got angry and divorced my wife and said: You are divorced three times. I divorced my wife until she separated from him and did not approach him. Or how? Tell him: In this issue, there are two opinions. Some say she is divorced, and some say she is not divorced. And so on: "It is haram, O my master, I do such and such, or is it halal?" In this issue, there are two opinions. Some say it is halal, and some say it is haram. The father was comforted by the son's advice and set out and sat down. The Shaykh : And as usual, some people who want to understand fiqh, the poor ones, they want to understand fiqh, but they do not know what fiqh is. They want to attend the council of ifta. The questions began to pile up on the father of the mufti, and he began to apply the formula. "In this issue, there are two opinions." One of the smart ones, "In the name of Allah, may Allah reward you," one of them realized thatThe Shaykh : he is not answering anything but one tune: "In this issue, there are two opinions." Haram, halal, permissible, not permissible, fard, sunnah, mustahabb. In this issue, there are two opinions. One smart man says to his neighbor: Please, askThe Shaykh : Tell him: Is there any doubt in Allah? O my master,The Shaykh : Is there any doubt in Allah? He said: In this issue, there are two opinions. Now, unfortunately, we hear these fatwas in this style. The lecturer delivers his lecture, and his lecture is not scientific; it contains nothing but preaching, advice, and reminder, and so on. This is a good thing, no doubt, but people need knowledge, need the fiqh about which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The questions begin afterwards to understand fiqh, and you do not hear anything but: The Hanafi madhhab says this, and the Shafi'i madhhab says this. And the poor group of attendees, do not blame me, and for every rule there is an exception, the group of attendees
are like drugged people, not one of them says: O my master,The Shaykh : We are lost between this madhhab and that madhhab, what is the right? Our Lord says:[Yunus 10:32] And our Prophet says: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1326Sahih (Darussalam) If knowledge is right and wrong, what is the right of what you say? One who lacks a thing cannot give it. He cannot give an answer, because he was yesterday a student in the university. After a day, two days, three months, two months, he got the degree and became a doctor. What he acquired is what he wants to present. He did not acquire knowledge; he acquired "so-and-so said" and "so-and-so said." And it came in the authentic hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) Sahih al-Bukhari 6473.
The Jews split into seventy-one sects, and the Christians into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah (the Muslim community) will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Fire except one.
