Is there a difference between disbelief and associating partners with Allah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A benefit now, in addition to what came before: Is it correct to say that one who abandons prayer for six— I do not mean a narration, but rather knowledge or jurisprudence— is it correct to say that one who abandons prayer has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah)? It is not correct...
Another questioner: We have no evidence...
The Shaykh: Do not trouble yourself, rest yourself as I taught you that hour. I am saying, from the jurisprudential side, not from the side of hadith narration: Is it correct to say that one who abandons prayer has committed kufr (disbelief)? Is it correct to say that one who abandons prayer has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah)? Jurisprudentially?
The questioner: No...
The Shaykh: Why? Why?
The questioner: We know that, meaning, what we understood from jurisprudence is that abandoning prayer falls under kufr (disbelief), whether practical kufr or creedal kufr.
The Shaykh: So what about shirk (associating partners with Allah)?
The questioner: We know that there is major shirk and minor shirk.
The Shaykh: So is this minor shirk practical or creedal?
The questioner: Practical.
The Shaykh: So there is no difference
The questioner: between shirk and kufr, meaning
The Shaykh: Yes, and the evidence is many proofs, and very many, among them is the hadithSunan Abi Dawud 3251Sahih (Al-Albani) which came in two narrations and you have something much more important than this, and I hope our brothers pay attention to this scientific benefit. Our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, in Surat al-Kahf related to us the story of the believer and the disbeliever who conversed [Al-Kahf 18:32-36] The question now: Is this kufr or shirk?
The questioner : ... .
The Shaykh : No
The questioner: We benefited from you
The Shaykh: I want to know your previous information
The questioner: No, my information is wrong
The Shaykh: No, I do not care about your previous information. If you were asked that question in the verse, is it kufr or shirk?
The questioner: Shirk
The Shaykh: Where is the shirk? Your previous information
The questioner: Kufr
The Shaykh: Kufr. We understood that kufr and shirk are one meaning in the Shari'ah. But now I want to bring you evidence from the Qur'an that what we understood is correct. However, it is known among the general people that every mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) is a kafir (disbeliever), but not every kafir is a mushrik, is that not so? This is wrong. For example, a Muslim man who testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, and he prays and fasts, and so on, but he tells you that this verse is not correct. Is this kufr or shirk?
The questioner: Kufr
The Shaykh: Kufr, but the Shari'ah gives us the information that he has also committed shirk. And here is the point: He said: [Al-Kahf 18:37] meaning the believer [Al-Kahf 18:37-38] He did not say "I do not disbelieve" because kufr is shirk and shirk is kufr. And this is confirmed by what will follow: [Al-Kahf 18:38-42] So kufr is shirk and shirk is kufr; there is no difference between them. Is that clear?
The questioner: May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : And may He bless you.
Al-Halabi: O our Shaykh, also in the beginning of Surat al-Bara'ah
The Shaykh: Bring it so we can see
Al-Halabi :[At-Tawbah 9:1]
The Shaykh : Yes.
Al-Halabi: Then[At-Tawbah 9:2]
The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.
Al-Halabi: In one context, those who distinguished between the kafir and the mushrik said the kafir denied, while the mushrik took a partner. But the kafir also took a partner: his desire.
The Shaykh: But the verse is not like that
The questioner: Correct, in terms of explicitness
The Shaykh: Because we said that every mushrik is a kafir, but not every kafir is a mushrik, linguistically.
Al-Halabi : Yes.
The Shaykh: Here it follows the language, meaning these mushrikin...
Al-Halabi: Kuffar (disbelievers)
The Shaykh: Kuffar
Al-Halabi : Ah
The Shaykh: We want the opposite. We want a text that indicates that whoever commits kufr has committed shirk...
Al-Halabi :
The Shaykh: No problem, but this is a general text that includes even the sinners. Did you see how? But I mean, I noticed...
Al-Halabi: This is yes, that he is a mushrik and then he committed kufr
The Shaykh: Yes, yes, correct
The questioner: Not a kafir...
The Shaykh: Yes, our topic is that everyone who commits kufr is a mushrik, and our topic is not that everyone who commits shirk has committed kufr...
Al-Halabi : This...
The Shaykh: Because that is accepted
Al-Halabi : May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : Yes, that is right.
Another questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
Another questioner: By the way, our Shaykh
The Shaykh: And you too
The questioner: The one who informed our Master Musa (Moses) was not Harun (Aaron). Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is the one who informed him. He said:[Taha 20:85] Here too, a hadith occurred: So Allah is the one who informed our Master Musa, and yet it did not settle in his chest as he saw it.
The Shaykh: Yes, it was not Harun. May Allah reward you with good. Good.
Another questioner: We have no evidence...
The Shaykh: Do not trouble yourself, rest yourself as I taught you that hour. He who swears by anyone but Allah
He has committed disbelief
فقد كفرhas committed shirk (associating partners with Allah)
(32) And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We bordered them with palm trees and placed between them [fields of] crops. (33) Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river. (34) And he had fruit, so he said to his companion while he was conversing with him, "I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in [numbers of] men." (35) And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said, "I do not think that this will perish - ever. (36) And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return."
The questioner : ... .

His companion said to him
Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man? (38) But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone.
(38) But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone. (39) And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah '? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children, (40) It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a calamity from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground, (41) Or its water will become sunken [into the earth], so you would never be able to seek it." (42) And his fruits were encompassed [by ruin], so he began to turn his hands about [in dismay] over what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and said, "Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone."
The questioner: May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : And may He bless you.
Al-Halabi: O our Shaykh, also in the beginning of Surat al-Bara'ah
The Shaykh: Bring it so we can see
Al-Halabi :
[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists.
The Shaykh : Yes.
Al-Halabi: Then
So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.
The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh: Yes, yes, correct
