What is your advice to the youth who attack the scholars?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abdul Malik: Shaykh, regarding this topic, many of the youth have fallen into attacking the shaykhs.
The Shaykh : This is correct.
Abdul Malik: So what is your advice to these people?
The Shaykh: Brothers, we have heard an answer to a question like this, which is that it is not permissible for these youth to disparage the people of knowledge who have a proven track record in knowledge, just because they have erred in the view of these youth. Know that when these youth attack those scholars, they do not proceed from knowledge, but rather from emotion. Therefore, if they like the fatwa of a certain scholar, they will find on the other side those who are enthusiastic about the scholars who oppose that scholar. In fact, they will also take the same stance regarding the shaykh whose fatwa and opinion they admire. So we advise the youth not to intervene in such matters, and not to attack, hint at, or mock the scholars whom they think have erred. We have been informed that some of them have gone so far as to pronounce the word of disbelief, may Allah protect us from that, against some of the scholars whom we revere, hold in high esteem, and respect with all respect. The cause of all this is that people, as we said earlier, whether they are right or wrong, proceed from emotion, not from knowledge, not from thought, but from unbridled emotion. These people are fanatical about one fatwa, and these people are fanatical about the other fatwa that contradicts the first, and so on. This becomes a cause for the fire to intensify and for discord to increase among the Muslims. Therefore, we have censured these youth, even if they were with us in opinion, for attacking the other scholars who have their own opinions and independent legal reasoning.
Abu Layla: The questions now, and if Allah wills, we will try to agree again withThe Shaykh : so that you can complete your questions.
The Shaykh: Perhaps his time has come and he needs to leave.
Abu Layla: He has two methodological questions, O Shaykh.
The Shaykh : This is correct.
