The mention of the story of Usamah when he killed the polytheist after he said, "There is no god but Allah"

The Shaykh : Among them is that story recorded in the books of biography and also in the authentic collections, about a man who was dueling with a polytheist. When the polytheist realized that he was under the blow of the sword and that he was certainly going to be killed, he said, "There is no god but Allah." The Muslim, however, killed him. When the news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he sent for him and said to him: Sunan an-Nasa'i 924Hasan (Darussalam) He said, "O Messenger of Allah, he did not say it except out of fear of being killed." In reality, every one of us, let alone that Companion who was directly involved, fully realizes that this polytheist did not say this phrase except to escape death. Therefore, this Companion was not convinced by this testimony and killed him despite that. Yet the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: So it is as if he is saying, "You have only the appearance; as for hearts, no one knows what is in them except the Knower of the Unseen (Glorified and Exalted is He)." And in truth, at the time we consider what has been mentioned previously, it is possible that this polytheist did not say it except as a ruse or out of fear of death. However, we can also observe another possibility: that this polytheist was relying on his strength, courage, and bravery. When he saw himself defeated, and indeed killed under the sword blow of that Companion, it was as if it became clear to him that there is a compelling power that supported this Companion, enabling him to subdue that polytheist who had imagined himself to be the invincible hero. At that point, he submitted to this power, not because he feared death as we mentioned in the first possibility, but because he saw a power he did not believe belonged to humans. This second possibility is brought closer to us by the incident of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrestling with Rakanah, who was considered in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah) to be a wrestler with no one who could defeat him. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him to wrestle. What did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do, by the power of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), without a doubt, but simply took him and threw him on his back with a supernatural strength? He asked for a second and third round, and the outcome of his affair was that he said, "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah." So he believed. Why? Because he saw a power he did not believe was human power. Thus, the Wise Lawgiver bases His rulings on what appears to people. So every Muslim who raises this Islamic banner and testifies that there is no god but Allah, it is not permissible for us to rush to declare him a disbeliever (takfir) except in one case: when he declares along with that testimony what contradicts it, nullifies it, and denies it. At that point, we condemn him and hold him accountable for what appears from him. At that time, we are able to declare him a disbeliever. And even then, be patient, and it is not permissible to rush to declare him a disbeliever except after establishing the proof against him.
