The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon His servant and Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and may He grant them peace.
The Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the Book of Faith, in the chapter on the prohibition of killing a disbeliever after he has said, "There is no god but Allah."
Ya'qub al-Duqni narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, Husayn informed us, Abu Dhabyan narrated to us, saying: I heard Usamah ibn Zayd ibn Harithah narrating, saying:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us to al-Harqah of the tribe of Jahina. We attacked the people in the morning and defeated them. I and a man from the Ansar pursued one of them. When we caught up with him, he said: "There is no god but Allah." The Ansari man held back from him, but I stabbed him with my spear until I killed him. He said: When we returned, that reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said to me: "O Usamah, did you kill him after he said: 'There is no god but Allah'?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, he was only seeking refuge." He said: "Did you kill him after he said, 'There is no god but Allah'?" He kept repeating this to me until I wished that I had not embraced Islam before that day.

The Shaykh : He only wished that because when a disbeliever embraces Islam, what has preceded is forgiven for him, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.
[Al-Anfal 8:38]
Therefore, he wished he had not embraced Islam before, so that he would embrace Islam and what had preceded would be forgiven for him.
