The Shaykh’s advice to the Tabligh group, the necessity of knowledge in calling to Allah, and the error of going out to call without knowledge

The Shaykh : Where are the scholars now regarding the Tabligh group? We tell them, “O people, instead of going out like a dragonfly with the dragonflies behind it, what is this? Sit in the mosque and study the Qur’an, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 2699a No, why? Because this sitting is a struggle against the self, and it involves restraint. That is why some people say, ‘Knowledge is dry.’ Yes, knowledge is dry; it requires patience and endurance. But if you go from place to place, especially if the places are green and beautiful, like Europe and America and these countries, you get distracted by these sights and are occupied away from studying the Sunnah. So where is the study of knowledge? Where is the call to the correct creed? Where is the ability to distinguish the authentic from the weak in hadith? Give me, my Muslim brothers, someone who knows how to pray the prayer of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Give me a group from the Tabligh group who are good at praying the prayer of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Absolutely not. Everyone is on their own madhhab, may Allah help them. So what is this reform? And what is this call? The Tabligh group is a name that does not fit its reality. O people, whoever wants to convey the message must be a knowledgeable man. We have had multiple discussions with our brothers in the Tabligh group, in Amman and elsewhere.

The Shaykh : Yes, we say, “The Sunnah.” Have you heard, O Tabligh group, have you heard that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ever sent a scholar from among the scholars of the Companions, along with ten, twenty, or thirty who did not know? I do not think you have heard of such reports. But without a doubt, you have heard, as we have heard and known, that he sent Mu’adh as a caller to Yemen, and sent Abu Musa with him, and said to them, advising them: or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said. He also sent Ali to Yemen, and sent Dhuhayy al-Kalbi to Heraclius, and so on.
One of the attendees: Mus’ab ibn Umayr.
The Shaykh : Yes, Mus’ab ibn Umayr, may Allah be pleased with him. They went, the group of seventy reciters, the reciters, the elite of the Companions, whose killing was the cause for the legitimacy of the qunut for calamities. Seventy reciters, not seventy from the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them. The Tabligh group sends out ten, twenty, or thirty, and the best among them does not know how to pray the prayer of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Why? Because he is not a scholar. And even if he knows how to pray, I say this with regret, he did not know this prayer from his own knowledge, but acquired it from others. Knowledge must flow from them so that this knowledge overflows to their followers. This is advice and a reminder, and the reminder benefits the believers. And may Allah be pleased with you, we are with you at twelve o’clock.
and those persons who assemble in the house among the houses of Allah (mosques) and recite the Book of Allah and they learn and teach the Qur'an (among themselves) there would descend upon them tranquility and mercy would cover them and the angels would surround them and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him
