What is the cure for the disease of lying?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I have several questions I would like to ask. First, there is a committed man who prays, but he has the habit of lying.

The Shaykh : Lying.

The questioner : Yes, he lies constantly. He resists himself, claiming that he does not lie, but unconsciously you find that he lies. What is his ruling, and what is the way for him to quit this lying?

The Shaykh : We do not have a method here; these are delicate psychological matters. However, he should fear Allah the Exalted and keep in mind the end of liars with the Lord of the Worlds. I mentioned earlier, on a past occasion, the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar. وإن الرجل لا يزال يكذب حتى يكتب عند الله كذّابا
Sahih al-Bukhari 6094
So I imagine that this person who has been afflicted with the calamity of lying and made it his constant habit and his entire life, if he were to remember the end of the liar with Allah the Exalted, he would repent. But he admits that he lies, yet he does not strive against his self. I am as certain of this as the Lord of the Worlds said:
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways والذين جاهدوا فينا لنهدينّهم سبلنا
[Al-'Ankabut 29:69]
So if I am a person, may Allah forbid, a liar and a fabricator who lies at the slightest opportunity, and I know myself to be this way, and I claim that I, by Allah, want to get rid of it, but I do not get rid of it, that means I am lying to myself, let alone to other people. Because the Lord of the Worlds, who is the most truthful of speakers, says:
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways والذين جاهدوا فينا لنهدينهم سبلنا
[Al-'Ankabut 29:69]
So the answer, briefly, is that he should fear Allah the Exalted. Part of that is that he should always and forever remember the end of the liar with Allah the Exalted on the Day of Resurrection. Anything else.
