The Shaykh’s mention of his meeting with Dr. “Ahmad al-Tir’ani,” one of the leaders of the Ikhwan, and the refusal of the Muslim Brotherhood to meet the Shaykh.

The Shaykh: About six or seven months before the Shaykh’s arrival, I was still making my usual visits here every month or two. I came and found my brother-in-law saying: One of the Muslim Brothers wants to arrange a meeting for you with some of their leaders over a dinner invitation. I told him: Okay, but let me meet with this man first. The man is alive and well, and perhaps you know him, Dr. “Ahmad.”
The questioner: “Ahmad al-Tir’ani.”
The Shaykh : Oh?
The questioner: al-Tir’ani.
The Shaykh: al-Tir’ani, “Ahmad al-Tir’ani.” I don’t know if you know him or not. He is a doctor, meaning a man of good character. He also has sincerity and fairness. Without a doubt, because of his fairness, he issued this invitation or tried to, because unfortunately he did not succeed. So we met with him and I understood his purpose. I said to him: Fine; I—may Allah will it—will be traveling tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, and I will return. Before I return to you, I will specify the week in which I might be with you so that you can arrange the meeting. I do not think there is any objection on your part to having some of my brothers with me. He said: Fine. I returned to Damascus. I was intending to bring our brother “Eid Abbasi : ,” I do not think you know him personally.
The questioner: Personally, no.
The Shaykh: He is a prisoner, meaning with the prisoners, yes?
The questioner: I have heard of him.
The Shaykh: May Allah free all the prisoners.
The questioner: Amen.
The Shaykh: In any case, I met with this brother and another brother of ours, and we coordinated our schedules so that we could send word here about the week in which we might come to them. And so it was; we sent a note to our brother-in-law here to inform Dr. Ahmad that we would be there in such-and-such a week. We actually waited for the reply, and the reply came that the group had refused the meeting. I, in any case... I came according to my own convenience, and he told me the details. When Dr. Ahmad informed the people he was going to invite that the Shaykh al-Albani would be coming in a few weeks and would set the time, but that he wanted to bring one or two of our brothers, he said: This is a matter that needs to be official, and we cannot hold an official meeting without permission from the leadership, so we need to consult. They consulted, and a reply of refusal came back, and so on. Every time we extended our hand, they refused to meet and shake hands, absolutely. And so we live: we advance toward them, and they retreat from us. Then, with no offense intended, I say it plainly: “She cast her disease upon me and slipped away.” So we ask Allah to improve and rectify the conditions of all Muslims.
This is what comes to my mind now in answer to that question, and may Allah reward you with good.
The questioner: Your Eminence, the Shaykh, may Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you, if Allah wills.
The questioner: “Ahmad al-Tir’ani.”
The Shaykh : Oh?
The questioner: al-Tir’ani.
