The Shaykh : One of the effects of this reversal and inversion is, for example, that they understand tawakkul contrary to its Shari'ah meaning, in that they understand tawakkul to mean tawakkul, and how great is the difference between tawakkul and tawakkul! Tawakkul is mentioned in many noble verses, including the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah وإذا عزمت فتوكل على الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:159]
So tawakkul upon Allah occurs after the Muslim has taken the means that usually lead him to what he seeks. For example, one who wants his land to bear ripe fruit and grow abundant grain must serve it with all the services that land usually requires, such as plowing, planting, clearing, watering, and the like. If he does this, he places his tawakkul in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and does not place his tawakkul in the means, because these means may be delayed; therefore, he must combine them with tawakkul in Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He.
As for a person saying, "If Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has decreed for me to eat from this land, from its fruit and its grain, then I will eat whether I served it or not," he is in reality deceiving himself and interpreting tawakkul contrary to its true intended meaning. And from this inversion they fall into, or when they interpret tawakkul in this sense, they do not fail to rely on some texts to support their interpretation, but at the same time, when they support their interpretation of tawakkul as tawakkul,
