Is it permissible for me to use my left hand, specifically for a person who is not skilled in using the right hand, for ritual slaughter or for writing the Qur'an?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible for me to use my left hand, specifically for a person who is not skilled in using the right hand, for ritual slaughter or for writing the Qur'an?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible for a person to use his left hand for ritual slaughter, writing the Qur'an, and other matters if he is not skilled in doing so with his right hand, based on the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
and His saying:
So fear Allah as much as you are able فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
Accordingly, if he intends to slaughter a sheep, let him lay it on its right side so that he can slaughter it with his left hand, for that is better and easier for slaughtering the animal. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
and when you slaughter, then do the slaughtering well. Let one of you sharpen his blade, and let him comfort his animal (before slaughtering). إذا ذبحتم فأحسنوا الذبحة، وليحد أحدكم شفرته وليرح ذبيحته
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1409Sahih (Darussalam)
Because if he lays it on its left side and he does not know how to slaughter except with his left hand, it becomes difficult for him and for the animal. On this occasion, I would like to say: If you lay the animal down for slaughter, let the slaughterer place his foot on the side of its neck, and let him hold its head with his left hand if he is slaughtering with his right hand. Then let him slaughter it while mentioning the name of Allah, saying "Bismillah," and let him dispatch it, meaning let the slaughter be with force and speed. Let him cut the two carotid arteries, which are the two vessels from which the blood flows, and let him leave its legs free without holding them, so that they may take their freedom of movement and so that its blood may be drained out more completely. As for what some people do of tying the legs or sitting on them so that they do not move, this is permissible, but leaving it is better due to the two benefits we mentioned: the comfort of the slaughtered animal, and the second is the intensity and speed of the blood drainage.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
