The Shaykh : In our previous lesson, the last hadith we discussed was the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Hasten to do good deeds before six things happen: the rising of the sun from the west, the smoke, the Dajjal, the beast and (the death) of one of you or the general turmoil. بادروا بالأعمال ستا طلوع الشمس من مغربها أو الدخان أو الدجال أو الدابة أو خاصة أحدكم أو أمر العامة
Sahih Muslim 2947a
It was narrated by Muslim. We had discussed some of the points and reached the smoke. We mentioned that this smoke referred to in this hadith is not the same as the smoke mentioned in the verse where smoke is mentioned, according to the opinion of some scholars. The important point is that this smoke mentioned in this hadith is one of the signs of the Hour. We mentioned that nothing regarding the description of this smoke has been reported in authentic Sunnah. When I say “authentic,” I mean that there are narrations that are weak in terms of their chains of transmission, which provide details about this smoke, stating that it seizes the hearts of the disbelievers and they die of suffocation, whereas it has no effect on the believers.
