Continuation of the discussion on the hadiths regarding the smoke.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What I intended from this hadith is that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the smoke, we understood from it that it is a great affliction that encompasses all the people of the earth. However, we do not rule out that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will treat His servants at that time in a way that exempts them from the hardship of life, the severity, and the punishment that befalls the disbelievers because of this smoke. As came in some of the previous hadiths, that when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) intends to establish the Hour, He sends a pleasant wind that takes the soul of every Muslim on the face of the earth, so that none remain except the worst of creation, and upon them the Hour is established. Perhaps in another opportunity, I will mention that al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir, in the verse
(10) Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. (11) Covering the people; this is a painful torment. فارتقب يوم تأتي السماء بدّخان مبين يغشى الناس هذا عذاب أليم
[Ad-Dukhan 44:10-11]
, mentioned in his exegesis of this verse some of the hadiths regarding the smoke, which are a sign of the Hour. However, these hadiths are not free from weakness, even though he, meaning al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir, held the view of strengthening and improving some of them. But it became clear to me through a brief study that he was not correct in that. However, the matter still requires further verification of those chains of narration. Perhaps I will give you the answer in another lesson, if Allah wills. And before I conclude my discussion on this verse from the six verses, which is the smoke, I want to mention that the previous verse
Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. فارتقب يوم تأتي السماء بدخان مبين
[Ad-Dukhan 44:10]
apparently does not mean the smoke that is a sign of the Hour. It is established in the two Sahihs from the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the smoke mentioned in the verse afflicted the polytheists; the polytheists were afflicted by it in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So the smoke mentioned in the hadith is not the smoke mentioned in the verse. We stop here to continue the commentary on the rest of the hadith in the next lesson.
