Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to read the Qur'an from the mushaf, and what is the authenticity of this hadith (Your menstruation is not in your hand)?

The questioner : The questioner says: Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to read the Qur'an from the mushaf? And what is the authenticity of this hadith:
Your menstruation is not in your hand ليست حيضتك بيدك
?

The Shaykh : The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on whether it is permissible for a woman to read the Qur'an while she is menstruating. Some prohibited it, saying: It is not permissible for her to read anything from the Qur'an except what is a remembrance that corresponds to the Qur'an, such as if she says: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful," intending the invocation of the name rather than recitation, or if she says: "Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds," intending to praise Allah rather than recitation, or if she says: "Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we return," due to a calamity that befalls her, intending the phrase of patience rather than recitation. In this case, there is no harm. Others said: It is permissible for the menstruating woman to read the Qur'an, because no authentic, explicit Sunnah has come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibiting the menstruating woman from reading. The original ruling is permissibility until evidence establishes prohibition. This is unlike the person in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), for it is not permissible for him to read anything from the Qur'an. The difference between him and the menstruating woman is that the menstruating woman's period lasts a long time and she cannot purify herself from it, whereas the person in a state of major ritual impurity can purify himself immediately. Therefore, he is prohibited from reading the Qur'an until he performs the full ritual bath (ghusl). As for the menstruating woman, she is not prohibited from reading the Qur'an. These are two opposing views: I mean the view of absolute prohibition and the view of absolute permissibility. However, the most cautious course, in our opinion, is that she should not read anything from the Qur'an except what she needs to read, such as if she fears forgetting the Qur'an, in which case she reads it out of fear of that. Or if she has regular portions of the Qur'an to recite in the morning or evening, she reads those portions. Or if she is a teacher who needs to teach girls, or a student who needs to listen to the teacher reciting the Qur'an, then there is no harm in that. However, in that case, she should not read from the mushaf unless there is a barrier between her and it, because the stronger view is that it is not permissible to touch the mushaf unless a person is in a state of ablution (wudu'). According to this view, which we see as closer to the truth, the menstruating woman reads what she needs to read from the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but she reads it either from memory or from the mushaf with a barrier, such as a handkerchief, a glove, or something similar.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
