Reminding the Shaykh that no one is in a position to understand the Qur'an independently without resorting to the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It is necessary that it be established in our minds and that we believe in our creed that no one is in a position to understand the Qur'an independently without resorting to the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, it is no wonder that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
I have left with you two matters, or two things, by which you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. تركت فيكم أمرين أو شيئين لن تضلوا ما إن تمسّكتم بهما كتاب الله وسنتي
And in another narration:
and my family - the people of my house - and they shall not split until they meet at the Hawd وعترتي ولن يتفرقا حتى يردا عليّ الحوض
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3788Sahih (Darussalam)
I have left with you two matters. تركت فيكم أمرين
It is not a single command, and it is not a single revelation
You will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. لن تضلوا ما إن تمسّكتم بهما كتاب الله وسنتي
The implication of this hadith is that any group that holds fast to only one of the two is misguided and has strayed from both the Book and the Sunnah. The one who holds fast to the Qur'an only, without the Sunnah, is in the same state as the one who holds fast to the Sunnah only, without the Qur'an; both are in clear error. Guidance and light lie in holding fast to both lights: the Book of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). In this authentic hadith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us glad tidings that we will never go astray as long as we hold fast to the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
