The Shaykh : The hadith that follows it is also authentic. He said: And from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept on a mat, and when he got up, it had left a mark on his side. We said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, why don’t we get you a covering?’” Meaning something from the bedding underneath to prevent the mark of the mat from affecting your body... He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2377Hasan (Darussalam) In this hadith, there is an allusion that one who is traveling in a hurry and stops under a tree does not establish a foundation or build beneath it, because he will soon depart. So when the Messenger (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) compared himself in this fleeting, perishing worldly life to a traveler who stops under a tree to take shelter, it is because he will soon depart from it and leave it behind. In it is an exhortation that a Muslim should not be overly attached to or cling to this world and its debris, adornments, and decorations, except to the extent that it helps him fulfill the right of worshiping Allah (Mighty and Majestic), this worship for the sake of which we were created, as our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) said: [Adh-Dhariyat 51:56] This hadith is also authentic. The author stated in his tracing that it was narrated by Ibn Majah and al-Tirmidhi, who said it is a good, authentic hadith, and by al-Tabarani, with this long wording. However, there is weakness in its chain, and therefore, based on the aforementioned condition, I avoided it.
