The questioner : Regarding the one who raised his voice at his parents in a state of anger: does he sin in that? And does he seek their pleasure?
The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a son to raise his voice at his parents, based on the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:[Al-Isra 17:23] It is generally the case that when parents reach old age, they may cause annoyance to their children and inflict hardship upon them. Nevertheless, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, forbade the son to be annoyed by them or to rebuke them, and commanded him to speak to them with kind words. So whoever raises his voice at his father or his mother, let him seek forgiveness from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and let him seek their forgiveness, and let him know that kindness to parents is a precursor to kindness to one’s own children, as the common people say. And it was reported in the hadith: Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 33:20.
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
