The questioner : She says: When I am working, or when time is tight, and my parents come to ask for something I have put away, I raise my voice at them. Is this forbidden? I do not wish to do this. Please reply quickly, and thank you.

The Shaykh : This is undoubtedly due to anger and a tightness of spirit.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : What a person should do is control himself when angry, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked by a man, who said, "Advise me," and he said:
Do not get angry لا تغضب
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : He repeated it several times, saying:
Do not get angry لا تغضب
. Therefore, a person should control himself when angry and seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan when he feels it, until he calms down. If she can control herself at that time from raising her voice at them, then it is not permissible for her to raise her voice at them.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because of the saying of the Exalted:
Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. إما يبلغن عندك الكبر أحدهما أو كلاهما فلا تقل لهما أف ولا تنهرهما وقل لهما قولا كريما
[Al-Isra 17:23]
. And it is known that when parents reach old age, they constantly...
...which makes a person feel constrained, embarrassed, or angry. And yet, Allah said:
say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. لا تقل لهما أف ولا تنهرهما وقل لهما قولا كريما
[Al-Isra 17:23]
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for her to be polite with her parents, to control herself when angry, and not to do anything that involves rebuking or scolding them.

The questioner : Yes.
