If a Muslim experiences a wet dream, sees semen, or has intercourse with his wife, then performs ghusl immediately, and then sees semen

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : If a Muslim experiences a wet dream, sees semen, or has intercourse, then performs ghusl immediately, and then sees semen; is ghusl obligatory for him, or is wudu' obligatory for him again if he was in a state of wudu'? In other words: does it break his wudu', or is ghusl not obligatory? That is, when semen comes out with desire?
There are two issues here, meaning: does he have to perform ghusl if the remainder of the semen comes out of him, or is wudu' sufficient for him?
The answer: There is naturally disagreement among the jurists on this issue. Some say that merely seeing the semen, even after he has performed ghusl, obligates him to perform another ghusl. However, there are those who say that the semen that obligates ghusl is the water that is expelled forcefully, as the Messenger (peace be upon him) explicitly stated in his saying:
but when you have seminal emission, you should take a bath. إذا فضخْتَ الماء فاغتسل
Sunan Abi Dawud 206Sahih (Al-Albani)
. So if semen comes out of a Muslim with desire, ghusl is obligatory for him. If, after he has performed ghusl, the remainder of the semen comes out of him, meaning like liquid water, this does not obligate ghusl, because it did not come out of him with desire. This condition—that is, the semen coming out of the man with force and with desire—gives us a ruling that is also among the rulings disputed by the jurists: if a person carrying a heavy load has this water come out of him, does it obligate ghusl for him?
The one who says that merely the exit of semen obligates ghusl says that ghusl is obligatory for him. The one who says that the water that obligates ghusl is the water that is expelled forcefully with desire says that ghusl is not obligatory for him. This is the correct view, based on the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that we mentioned.
As for whether wudu' alone is obligatory for him after the semen comes out of him?
The answer here is like the ruling on ghusl; it is not obligatory for him either, because semen is pure. So its coming out of him is like saliva or mucus coming out of him, and that does not obligate wudu' for him. Especially since there is no hadith at all that obligates a Muslim to perform wudu' after the remainder of the semen comes out in this way, slowly, without force or desire.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : The one who has a wet dream at night and wakes up having seen the water, ghusl is obligatory for him, because the one who has a wet dream does not feel desire or the absence of desire. So we looked into the case of the awake person who had intercourse with his wife and performed ghusl, and then the remainder of the semen came out of him; this does not obligate him...
Yes.

The questioner : Raise your voice, the one who asked the question.

Another questioner : Does the exit of madhi not obligate wudu'?

The Shaykh : Absolutely not.

Another questioner : Madhi.

The questioner : So, does the remainder of the semen not take the ruling of madhi, or?

The Shaykh : Madhi is impure and semen is pure, and analogizing the pure to the impure is an analogy with a difference.
