Explanation of a hadith from al-Mundhiri's *al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib*, from the Book of Funerals, the chapter on encouraging patience, especially for one who is afflicted in his person or his wealth, and the virtue of affliction

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As mentioned earlier, he said: "And from Muhammad ibn Khalid, from his father, from his grandfather, who had companionship with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
If a servant is destined by Allah for a rank that he does not reach through his deeds, Allah tests him in his body, his wealth, or his children, and then he is patient with that until he reaches the rank that was destined for him by Allah, Mighty and Majestic إن العبد إذا سبقت له من الله منزلة فلم يبلغها بعمل ابتلاه الله في جسده أو ماله أو في ولده ثم صبر على ذلك حتى يبلغه المنزلة التي سبقت له من الله عز و جل
It was narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Abu Ya'la, and al-Tabarani in the *Kabir* and the *Awsat*. Muhammad ibn Khalid did not narrate from him except Abu al-Mulih al-Raqi, and no one narrated from Khalid except his son Muhammad. And Allah knows best. The meaning of this tracing of the hadith is that the chain of this hadith is weak, but it is authentic through other chains, as is clear to me in *al-Sahihah* with number 2599. We will suffice with this amount for now, because the time for the 'Isha' prayer is approaching, and some of you must have questions so that we can proceed to answer them.
