The Shaykh : As for the following hadith, it is authentic, and with it we conclude these hadiths for this night. It is his statement from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
And the affliction of the believer is an expiation for his sins وصب المؤمن كفارة لخطاياه
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 14:30
It was narrated by Ibn Abi al-Dunya and al-Hakim, who said: The chain of narration is authentic. This is as if it is an abridgment of the first hadith, which was from Abu Sa'id and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them both)
Never a believer is stricken with discomfort, hardship ما يصيب المؤمن من وصب ولا نصب
Sahih Muslim 2573
He said at the end of it:
Except that Allah will expiate for him thereby from his sins إلا كفر الله له بها من خطاياه
Here he summarized that, saying:
And the affliction of the believer is an expiation for his sins وصب المؤمن كفارة لخطاياه
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 14:30
And thereafter, if Allah wills, there are other hadiths; we will recite what is feasible of them. And this is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Now we listen to the questions you have.
