The Shaykh : Then the following hadith is also authentic, and it is his statement: "And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Trials will not cease afflicting the believing man and the believing woman in their self, children, and wealth, until they meet Allah without having any sin. ما يزال البلاء بالمؤمن والمؤمنة في نفسه وولده وماله حتى يلقى الله تعالى وما عليه خطيئة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2399Hasan (Darussalam)
In this hadith, there is a new type of news and of glad tidings for the Muslim, for whom calamities and afflictions continue to befall and strike him. If this is the condition of the Muslim, then that means it is a glad tidings from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that if he is patient with it and receives those calamities with satisfaction and counts them as a reward with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), he will meet Allah (Mighty and Majestic) with no sin upon him. All the previous hadiths revolve around the fact that a calamity is met with the expiation of a sin and the raising of a degree. But this hadith gives us a new meaning, which is that if affliction continues to descend upon the Muslim in its various forms and types—whether his wealth decreases, burns, or is stolen, or he is afflicted in his children, either by death or by an illness that burdens him with fatigue and hardship in its treatment—all of this becomes a cause for all his sins to be erased, so that he meets Allah (Mighty and Majestic) with no sin in his record.
