A word from the Shaykh warning against exaggeration in religion in light of the hadith (… You are our master) and the hadith (Do not exalt me as the Christians exalted…)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this on the occasion of some of them addressing him (peace and blessings be upon him) with such a phrase, namely lordship. He (peace and blessings be upon him) feared two things for these people. The first thing: that their praise of the Messenger (peace be upon him) would lead them to exaggeration. This is almost explicit in the other hadith that came in the Musnad of Imam Ahmad… that some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to him:
You are our master and the son of our master, and the best of us and the son of the best of us. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say what you say or something like what you say, and do not let Satan lead you on.
, his saying
And do not let Satan drag you away.
is explicit or nearly explicit, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that Satan would pave the way for these people who addressed him with their mentioned words, “You are our master and the son of our master,” and so on, to lead them to exaggeration in praising him (peace and blessings be upon him). And therefore came the hadith agreed upon byThe Shaykh : them, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
I am only a servant.
What is the hadith?

The questioner :
I am merely a servant,’ so say: '[He is] Allah’s servant and His Messenger.’
Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 329Sahih (Zubair `Aliza'i)

The Shaykh : No, before it, before it.

The questioner :
Do not exalt me…

The Shaykh
Do not praise me as the Christians praised Jesus, son of Mary, for I am only a servant, so say: the servant of Allah and His Messenger.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:107
This is the first reason, and it is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that those who praised him with that praise, which is originally permissible, would be led by Satan to say about him what the Christians said.
And the second thing: is to draw their attention to the fact that the true master is Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Therefore, he said to them:
Al-Sayyid is Allah.
. From this explanation, we understand that there is no contradiction between this hadith and the other hadith, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
I am the leader of the sons of Adam, and it is no boast
Sunan Ibn Majah 4308Sahih (Darussalam)
. And in the other hadith,
I will be the 'Leader' of the people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why that is?
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2434Sahih (Darussalam)
, then he (peace be upon him) mentioned the long hadith of intercession. This is what I have as an answer to your question.
Abu Ishaq: And “rise to your master” also takes this course?

The Shaykh : “Your master” in its linguistic meaning, i.e., to your leader. So the meaning of lordship here is not from the category of exaltation that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) deserves, but rather as if he said to them: “Rise to your commander.” So he is their master in the sense of their commander.
